Chemical Engineering Scholarships


University of Utah students have many fantastic options to apply for financial aid. The Department of Chemical Engineering offers several annual scholarships. The John and Marcia Price College of Engineering likewise has annual scholarships for Chemical Engineering students, including freshman and transfer students. Some of our students have been able to graduate free of debt by using the scholarship resources offered to them and we encourage every student to apply.

Below is a list of Department and Price College of Engineering scholarships. Scholarships that require an additional essay will be designated by bold text.

All scholarships can be applied for through the university’s scholarship application platform.

  • Janaki Natarajan Endowed Scholarship in Chemical Engineering
    Description: Dr. Valadi N. Venkatesan (PhD ’80) established this scholarship in honor of his mother, Janaki Natarajan, to recognize and support an underrepresented undergraduate chemical engineering student.
  • Guinevere A. & Kevin L. Cummings Scholarship
    Description: This scholarship was funded by Guinevere A. (BS ChE ’86) and Kevin L. Cummings (MBA ’93) to recognize and provide support for an outstanding engineering student.
  • Phillip A. and Elizabeth Dougall Endowed Scholarship
    Description: This scholarship was funded by the estate of Phillip A. & Elizabeth M. Dougall to provide support for chemical engineering students.
  • James & Wanda Frandsen Endowed Scholarship
    Description: Awarded through an endowment established by W. James (BS ChE ’57, MS BU ’59) and Wanda Frandsen to recognize students with scholastic merit and provide encouragement for completion of a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Steve and Sherri Funk Endowed Scholarship
    Description: Established by Steven (BS ChE ’77) and Sheri Funk.
  • Ralph E. Goff Endowed Scholarship
    Description: Description: Dr. Blake (BS ChE ’88) and Julie Goff established this scholarship in honor of Blake’s father, Ralph E. Goff, to recognize and support an outstanding chemical engineering student.
  • Robert Henricks Scholarship
    Description: Robert Henricks (BS CS ’75) has made this scholarship available to a chemical engineering student as a way of saying thank you to the college and the department.
  • Matthew S. Hickenlooper & Rhiannon Longstaff Scholarship
    Description: This scholarship was established by Matthew Hickenlooper (BS ChE ’06) and his wife Rhiannon Longstaff to recognize and provide support to outstanding students in chemical engineering.
  • Lance A. & Rashelle E. Hobbs Scholarship
    Description: This scholarship was funded by Lance A. (MS ChE ’07) and Rashelle E. Hobbs to recognize and provide support for an outstanding engineering student.
  • Holly Refinery Scholarship for Chemical Engineering
    Description: Holly Refining and Marketing Company provides a scholarship for a junior and/or senior student with a career interest in the petrochemical industry. Holly is an independent petroleum refiner and marketer of high value products, such as gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel.
  • Mark J. & Alice H. Isaacson Scholarship
    Description: Provided through the generosity of alumni Dr. Mark J. (BS ChE ’79) and Alice H. (BS ChE ’79) Isaacson, this scholarship recognizes scholastic merit and provides encouragement to students in chemical engineering.
  • Jason Job Endowed Scholarship
    Description: This scholarship was established by Jason Job (BS ChE ’98) to support a chemical engineering student who has achieved major status and is supporting a family.
  • Henry McAnany Meads Scholarship
    Description: This scholarship was funded by Justin J. Meads (BS ChE ’94) and Laura Marie McAnany (BS ChE ’94) to honor and encourage their son, Henry, to attain his college education, and to recognize and provide support for an outstanding engineering student.
  • Neil R. Mitchell Endowed Scholarship
    Description: This scholarship was established by Daniele Dumais in memory of her late husband, Neil R. Mitchell (BS ChE ’60), to recognize and provide support for an outstanding engineering student.
  • Richard H. & Renee Nordlund Scholarship
    Description: This scholarship was established by Richard H. (BS ChE ’64, MBA ’66) and Renee Norlund to recognize and provide support to outstanding students in chemical engineering.
  • Walter L. & Treva Pershing Endowed Scholarship
    Description: Established by University of Utah President and Distinguished Professor David W. Pershing to honor his parents’ support of education and to encourage juniors and seniors in their pursuit of excellence in chemical engineering.
  • Neelu Ramaswami Endowed Scholarship
    Description: Awarded through an endowment established by Dr. Ramaswami Neelameggham (PhD MET ’72) in honor of his father, Neelu Ramaswami. This scholarship is to be awarded to students who have excelled academically in Chemical Engineering.
  • Red Hanger Scholarship
    Description: Brad Overmoe (BS ChE ’82), President of Red Hanger Cleaners, along with his brother, Alan Overmoe (BS COMM ’86), provide an annual donation to support students of merit in chemical engineering.
  • J.D. Seader Endowed Leadership Scholarship
    Description: Awarded in honor of Professor Seader, a renowned leader in chemical engineering education, to recognize ther service and leadership provided by the student-elected SAC chair.
  • Michael W. & Barbara F. Soulier Endowed Leadership Scholarship
    Description: This scholarship was funded by Michael F. (BS ChE ’64) and Barabara W. (BS EDU ’73) Soulier to encourage excellence in the study of engineering. Mr. Soulier is chair of the Engineering National Advisory Council.
  • L Scott Pessetto Endowed Scholarship
    Description: Scott Pessetto (BS ChE ’82) would like to help support a student in Chemical Engineering as a show of appreciation for his engineering degree from the University of Utah.
  • Gregory P. Starley Endowed Scholarship
    Description: This scholarship was funded by Greg Starley (MS ChE ’80, PhD ChE ’82) to encourage excellence in the study of engineering.  Dr. Starley is a member of the Engineering National Advisory Council.
  • Alice & William Van Talge Endowed Scholarship
    Description: Endowed through a gift from the Van Talge estate, this scholarship provides encouragement and financial assistance to students, including those entering the University of Utah from another institution of higher education.
  • Wake2 Endowed Scholarship
    Description: Clint (BS CE ’78) and Lori (BS NURS ’81) Todd established this scholarship in gratitude for the education that Clint received while studying chemical engineering at the U of U. Clint had a meaningful career at ExxonMobil and retired in 2017. The name WAKE2 is in honor of Clint and Lori’s five children, using the first letter of each of their names.
  • Chemical Engineering Departmental Tuition Waiver Scholarship
    Description: Provided by the University of Utah to encourage academic merit.
