Abstract:
Larry Hjalmarson will present on how to lead and influence safety – touch hearts first, then minds and actions.  I’ll start with a discussion of a fatal accident.  I’ll explain the leader’s role, but also the greatest influence of safety which is the work team itself, who show the new employee "the way we do things around here."  I’ll spend time on measures, leading and lagging, and how to use both.  I also will show an Excel model of the safety pyramid that illustrates the concepts.  It shows why you must set a goal of zero accidents, not just philosophically but very practically and how it really is achievable.
