Abstract:
In this seminar, Professor Davies will present an overview of environmental law and energy law for engineers and those interested in the field. He will describe different modes of regulation under the two fields, how they intersect, and ways in which they are not coordinated. The talk will also give some attention to laws specifically related to energy extraction and production industries, including NEPA.
Biography:
Lincoln Davies is the James I. Farr Professor of Law, Presidential Scholar, and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law. Professor Davies is co-author of the new energy law casebook, Energy Law and Policy (West Academic, 2014), with Alexandra Klass, Hari Osofsky, Joseph Tomain, and Elizabeth Wilson. He has written extensively on energy law and policy, and in particular on renewables and alternative energy, nuclear power, and regulatory and technology innovation, as well as on water law and its intersection with land, sustainability, and energy issues. His articles have been published in the University of Illinois Law Review, the Connecticut Law Review, the Maryland Law Review, the BYU Law Review, and Energy Policy, among others. His two most recent articles are Feed-in Tariffs in Turmoil (with Kirsten Allen) and Evaluating RPS Policy Design: Metrics, Gaps, Best Practices, and Paths to Innovation. In 2012, Professor Davies was awarded the McCloy Fellowship in Environmental Policy to comparatively study renewable energy law in the United States and Germany.
