The Chemical Engineering Department welcomes Dr. Swomitra (Bobby) Mohanty as Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering.
Mohanty comes to the U with outstanding credentials. He received his bachelor’s in biology at the University of Chicago, his master’s in electrical and computer engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology, and a doctorate in biomedical engineering at the University of Wisconsin. He also has been a post-doctoral researcher at the University of California-Berkeley.
His research interests can be broken down into four themes: sensors, catalysis, environmental remediation and advanced 3D printing of nanomaterials/porous media. Currently, his list of projects at the U include the development of a handheld tuberculosis breathalyzer device, nanomaterials for catalytic conversion of biofuels from renewable sources, and 3D printing technology for the development of fluidic models of petroleum reservoirs.
