Title: “Renewable Feedstocks: Utilization of CO2 as a C1 Source”

Date: December 2, 2015
Time: 3:00-4:00 p.m.
Place: WEB L102

There will be light refreshments afterwards.

Abstract:
The need to remove and use CO2 is becoming increasingly important as global climate change continues to become a broader impactful issue. We aim to use carbon nanotube (CNT) materials and heterogeneous catalysts to both collect and use CO2 as a carbon building block. The design and testing of CNT materials, heterogeneous catalysts and preliminary reactions will be described.

Biography:
Prof. Stowers completed BS degrees at the University of Utah in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in 2006. She served as Tau Beta Pi president and vice president of AIChE student chapters. She went on to the University of Michigan to complete her MS and PhD in organometallic Pd-catalyzed reactions in 2012 before moving on to Harvard University to study how gold surfaces catalyze partial oxidation reactions. Dr. Stowers started her position at Brigham Young University in 2014 as an Assistant Professor in the Chemistry department.
